Through the funding of Tijori Foundation, in partnership with CARE Philippines, the Cordillera Disaster Response and Development Services (CorDisRDS) was able to implement a relief operation last September 6-14, 2022 in Tayum, Abra. The relief pack contains food and non-food items as well as an emergency shelter kit as a safeguard for the residents in case of aftershocks.
In cooperation with the Municipality of Tayum, CorDisRDS was able to reach the five (5) barangays specifically Gaddani, Budac, Velasco, Pias and Basbasa. These barangays were targeted in response to the assessment of the Cor Dis RDS staffs two days after the earthquake which necessitates that they need support.
The relief assistance commenced through beneficiary listing and multiple verifications with the assistance of the barangay officials as to enlist every family. During the relief operation, there was a short orientation conducted as to introduce the agencies that participated in the relief. It was followed by the distribution of goods. To maintain order among the beneficiaries, they undergo through the information desk, followed by the verification table and then the releasing of goods. A feedback and complaints desk were also stationed to catch the comments of the people. To guarantee the safety of the beneficiaries, a sanitation table was provided and social distancing was insured in accordance to the safety protocols of Covid-19.
Among the remarks of the barangay captains, “This relief assistance is timely for it will sustain the people for longer time while waiting for the harvest season. The set of relief pack was well thought for it can last for days. And as it is an activity with a plan, it is the most organized distribution.” Moreover, the relief was well commended by the beneficiaries for it can sustain their family in this time of need.
