Participants of the training on Health Orientation and Herbal Medicines Preparation Training in Daulan, Tonglayan , Natonin, Mt. Province were able to prepare herbal medicines using available medicinal plants in the community. The training conducted in October 20-22, 2011 was facilitated by CorDis staff in partnership with the Balugang -Daulan Farmers Organization (BADAFO), the partner PO in the area.

The training was requested by the health committee of BADAFO to enhance the knowledge and skills of its members on alternative medicines. 21 women actively participated in the training. The training started with a workshop wherein the participants shared the health situation in the area including alternative medicines used in the community. It was followed by an orientation on health wherein the idea of prevention is better than cure was stressed.

The participants gathered samples of medicinal plants available in the area and shared how it is being prepared or applied to particular ailments. There was also an input on proper selection and storing of medicinal plants as well as demonstration on the procedures on how to process or prepare herbal medicines.

The participants had a practicum on how to prepare herbal medicines such as salabat or ginger powder, lemon grass extract, lagundi syrup , ointment from ginger, hot pepper and garlic and antiseptics. The produced herbal medicines were bought by the participants wherein the accumulated sales was allocated as a health committee fund to sustain their program on herbal medicines production and preparation.
